What we do

G&DCC works to improve the local area and welcomes the ideas and active input of the local community to this. People, living locally appreciate its beauty and welcome visitors to the area, to work or play. We know that sometimes this can cause some tension and we work to find the best solution to these.

The whole community are very grateful for the voluntary time and effort of local people to support our environment, community facilities and to improve our local area.

We manage Pat’s Playpark, with an enormous input from volunteers. We bought, renovated and maintain  our 4 phone kiosks, partly as a historic icon but all will be put to good community use. At Ffynnon Gynydd and Cwmbach we have installed defibrillators, in Glasbury kerb-side flower planters,  benches and notice boards.

We partner local organisations that work to benefit the local community, through grants and donating equipment. Examples are providing the 1st Glasbury & Tregoyd Scout Group with litter pick equipment, grants to Glasbury and Llyswen Village Halls and to LOVE toilets in Glasbury, to Llyswen and Boughrood Show, and other local voluntary agencies and charities .

This year we even won 2nd prize at Llyswen and Boughrood Show’s Scarecrow competition and returned the prize to their funds. 1st Glasbury and Tregoyd Beavers are planting up bulbs to add to the planters for spring 2022

Current issues  We work hard to keep the local community informed about local issues, about our own actions and to consult with people who live in the area. Please take a look at the G&DCC Facebook page for discussion about current issues - Keep up to date with Facebook News

During 2022 we will install play equipment at Archdeacon Griffiths School and hope to install defibrillators at Glasbury Bridge and Boughrood. We also hope to have Powys CC’s firm plan for the traffic calming measures, double yellow lines at Glasbury and the site agreed for Speed indicator Devices (SIDs) that we will buy and maintain at Boughrood and Glasbury.

Working with partners We represent the views of local people to statutory bodies - Powys County Council, Dyfed-Powys Police, Powys Teaching Health Board , Welsh Government, Natural Resources Wales  and to  professional and interest bodies Powys Association of Voluntary Organisations, Bronllys Wellbeing Park, Radnorshire Wildlife Trust, South Wales Outdoor Activity Providers, Wye and Usk Foundation.

Meetings G&DCC meetings deal with local issues and the progress made with these. We discuss our own services and activities, suggestions & concerns raised by local residents, views about local policing, health and council services. Meetings are currently held on the 2nd Wednesday of alternative months. Click Here for view minutes and papers. These have usually been held in Glasbury Village Hall.

We welcome residents to attend and raise issues, but they cannot take part in the discussion or decision making. If you want to attend and raise an issue, please advise our clerk in advance at clerk@gdcc.wales. As agendas are full and as they are agreed a week in advance so Councillors can prepare it may not be possible to fit in  an extra item at a meeting.

Where our money comes from G&DCC is funded through the taxpayer and other public funds. We set an annual budget and receive a precept payment, via Powys County Council, from the council tax paid by local residents. In 2020 we also received donations to support specific projects from Black Mountain Lions and Powys Association for Voluntary Organisations. In 2021 local fundraising bought the defibrillator that they house in our kiosk in Llowes, donated equipment to Pat’s Playpark and planted up one of  the Glasbury planters. Click Here for Accounts

Funding of grants by G&DCC G&DCC is empowered by s.137 of the Local Government Act 1972 to make grants which, in its opinion, are “in the interests of, and will bring direct benefit to, some or all  of the inhabitants” of the community. Further, the Council is empowered by legislation to make grants towards the maintenance of community facilities such as village halls and public toilets.
